How to Make an AI Friends Dance Video From Three Separate Photos

The friends dance video puts you and two friends at one party, clapping and moving to the same beat, even if you live in different cities. It takes one photo of each of you. Here is how to get three photos that match and how to make sure everyone is on board.

What the friends dance video is

It is an 8-second vertical clip made from three separate photos. We first put the three of you side by side at a party, then animate a short, simple routine.

For the first two seconds the three of you stand side by side at a house party and start moving to the beat. From two to four seconds you clap along and point at the camera together. From four to six seconds you cheer and pull each other close. In the last two seconds you laugh with your arms around each other's shoulders as confetti falls. The camera stays steady, so everyone stays in frame.

How to make it on MagicTakes

  1. Open the Friends Dance Party template.
  2. Pick a setting: House party or Backyard party.
  3. Upload your photo in the first slot, You.
  4. Upload a photo of each friend in the Friend 2 and Friend 3 slots. All three are needed.
  5. Tap Make my take. It costs 40 credits; your first take is free with a small magictakes.com mark.
  6. Wait 2 to 4 minutes, then download the 9:16 MP4 from your library and send it to the group.

Getting three photos that match

With three people, small differences add up. A close selfie next to two photos taken from across the room will make one friend look much bigger than the others. It is worth asking everyone for a fresh photo taken the same way.

  • Three photos taken from a similar distance, waist up.
  • One person per photo, faces clear and front-facing.
  • Similar light in all three helps the group match. Daylight near a window is easy for everyone to copy.
  • No sunglasses or hats covering faces.
  • Clothes don't need to match; everyone keeps the clothes from their own photo.

House party or Backyard party

House party is the default: a living room at night with colourful string lights, balloons, a disco-ball glow and confetti at the end. It suits birthdays and anything with a night-out feel.

Backyard party moves you outdoors at dusk, with string lights over the lawn and paper lanterns swaying in the breeze. It is calmer and suits summer plans, reunions and garden parties. Try the other one on your next take if you can't decide.

In both settings everyone keeps their own face, hair and skin tone from their photo, and the three of you stay in full view from the knees up.

Ideas for posting it

Takes are vertical 9:16 MP4 files at 720p, made for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. They are silent, so add the group's favourite track when you post.

  • A birthday post for your friend group. Caption idea: Same moves, three time zones.
  • A party invite that shows the plan, with the date as on-screen text.
  • Getting the group together when you live in different cities.
  • A reunion teaser before a trip, sent to the group chat first.
  • Make one in each setting and post them a week apart as a countdown.

What goes wrong and how to fix it

Group clips have more moving parts than solo ones. When one take is close, make another from the same three photos before you change anything; each take is a new attempt. If the same friend looks off every time, swap only their photo.

  • One friend doesn't look like themselves: use a sharper, front-facing photo of that friend, with their face filling more of the frame.
  • The three look different sizes: use photos taken from a similar distance, all waist up.
  • The moves aren't in sync: small differences are normal. Make another take for a tighter match.
  • A photo was rejected: all three photos must show adults who agreed to it.
  • A take fails: the 40 credits go back to your balance automatically.

Ask your friends first

Three faces means three people to ask. Before you upload a friend's photo, check that they are happy to be in it, and ask again before you post it anywhere public. A message in the group chat is usually enough. Only adults can be in the video; photos of children and of public figures can't be used. Uploads are deleted after 30 days, and your takes are private unless you share them.

Questions

Can I make it with only two people?

No. This template needs exactly three photos. For two people, try Slow Dance or AI Hug.

Can I pick the dance moves?

The routine is fixed and kept simple: moving to the beat, claps, a point at the camera and a group hug at the end. Simple moves are what keep three people in sync.

What if one friend only has a selfie?

It can work, but a selfie is usually much closer than the other photos. Ask for one taken from a little further away, waist up, so the three of you come out the same size.

Can someone else in the group use my credits?

Credits belong to your account. Whoever makes the take uses their own credits and can then share the video with everyone.
